Dan Ross, Pharm.D. is President of D Ross Consulting, a consulting firm that provides patient safety, medication safety, pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance and performance improvement consultants for hospitals and health systems. 


Dan has provided medication safety assessments at more than 60 hospitals, prepped more than 80 hospitals for medication-related CMS validation surveys and/or CDPH MERP surveys, and assisted at 11 hospitals with CMS Systems Improvement Agreements.  Have served as a consultant for The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) on two separate long-term engagements.  340B experience includes complete startup of the program from early planning to full implementation and supporting three hospitals in preparing for successful HRSA 340B audits.
 

Prior to starting his consulting company Dan served as the Director of Pharmacy and Medication Safety at Catholic Healthcare West (CHW - now Dignity Health) comprised of over forty hospitals in California, Arizona and Nevada. In his role Dan had responsibility for developing and implementing system-wide initiatives to improve clinical quality and patient safety related to medication use. Other areas of focus include managing the CHW clinician website-CHWConnect, decreasing the pharmacist vacancy rate in the hospitals and developing strong pharmacy leaders.

He also served as the Vice President of Ancillary Services and Chief Pharmacy Officer at City of Hope National Medical Center from mid-2011 through mid-2012.  In that role he was responsible for over 575 FTEs and annual budgets of over $170 million.

Prior to his work at CHW, Dan served at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center for over eleven years in a variety of capacities, including pharmacy clinical coordinator, director of pharmacy, vice-president of clinical services and chief operating officer. 


Dan was born and raised in Southern California and received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry degree from UCLA and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from USC. After graduating from pharmacy school, Dan completed a one-year clinical pharmacy residency at Memorial Medical Center of Long Beach. Dan worked as a critical care pharmacist at UCLA and then Memorial Medical Center of Long Beach after completing his residency. 


Dan lives in Glendale, California with his wife and giant Labrador Retriever.  His spare time is spent biking, hiking  and traveling on family vacations.
